In the aftermath of the Pahalgam killings, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified counterinsurgency operations. The latest operation, ongoing in Kulgam district, began on Friday evening in the Akhal forest area of Devsar, approximately 70 km south of Srinagar.

The joint operation by the Army, police, and CRPF involves the use of drones, helicopters, and cautious ground advances due to the difficult, dense forest terrain. Initial clashes resulted in the killing of at least one local terrorist, with another suspected killed but his body not yet recovered. Several security personnel were injured during the operation, according to officials.

By Sunday, the operation had entered its third day, with intermittent gunfire and explosions continuing. Two militants have been killed in a gunfight with security forces, and the body of one militant has been recovered. The identities and group affiliations of the slain terrorists remain undisclosed.

On August 7, the Army deployed Rudra helicopters, drones, and Para Commandos to prevent the militants from escaping, signaling a sustained and intensified search effort. The operation is still active, with security forces maintaining pressure on militants hiding in the dense forests of Kulgam.

This is the second major anti-insurgency action in Kashmir in just over a week. On July 28, three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, allegedly involved in the Pahalgam attack, were killed in a separate encounter.

The events described in this article occurred on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as of August 3, 2025. The operation remains ongoing as of August 4, marking its fourth day.

  1. The ongoing counterinsurgency operation in Kulgam district, despite entering its fourth day, still requires the deployment of Rudra helicopters, drones, and Para Commandos to intensify search efforts, as the identity of the second suspected terrorist remains undiscovered.
  2. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam killings and the subsequent operation in Kulgam, it's crucial to keep a close eye on the general news and politics, as this intensified war-and-conflicts scenario in Jammu and Kashmir may have far-reaching implications for the region and beyond.
  3. Social concerns are rising as the war-and-conflicts in Jammu and Kashmir escalate, and citizens are questioning the necessity of their subscription to crime-and-justice news channels, considering the growing emphasis on terrorism-related issues in the area.
