Thiel Macro dumps Nvidia and Tesla stocks in bold portfolio shake-up

Peter Thiel’s hedge fund, Thiel Macro, has made significant changes to its tech holdings. The firm sold off its entire stake in Nvidia stock and most of its Tesla stock in the third quarter. At the same time, it built a substantial new position in Microsoft, now accounting for 34% of its portfolio.

Thiel Macro’s decision to exit Nvda stock comes as the chipmaker dominates the AI accelerator market with over 80% share. However, rising competition from Broadcom and Marvell Technology, along with potential export restrictions in China, may have influenced the move. Nvidia stock remains a key player, with strong expected earnings growth tied to AI demand.

Meanwhile, Tesla stock’s market position has weakened. The company has lost its lead in electric vehicle sales to BYD, though its long-term focus remains on autonomous driving and humanoid robotics—a sector projected to reach $4 trillion by 2040. Despite this vision, Thiel Macro reduced its Tesla stock stake by 76% in the same quarter.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has seen remarkable growth. Since its IPO in 1986, the company has delivered returns of around 483,000%, with shares hitting $483.16 in early December 2025. Its AI monetisation efforts, backed by 150 million monthly active users, have strengthened its enterprise software dominance. Additionally, Microsoft Azure continues to expand as the second-largest cloud provider, rapidly increasing data centre capacity.

Thiel Macro’s shift towards Microsoft reflects confidence in its AI-driven growth and cloud expansion. The fund’s exit from Nvidia stock and Tesla stock signals a strategic realignment, though both companies remain major forces in their industries. Microsoft’s strong performance and dividend payouts further solidify its position as a top investment choice.
