Thick fog blankets Sochi and Sirius Territory through Sunday morning

Dense fog is set to blanket Sochi and the Sirius Federal Territory late on March 28, lingering into Sunday morning. Authorities have warned both residents and drivers to take extra care as visibility drops sharply in the affected areas.

Before the fog's arrival, Sochi experienced mild spring weather. From March 22 to 24, daytime temperatures hovered between 9°C and 17°C, with nights cooling to 5-12°C. Winds blew from the southwest to northwest at speeds of 5-13 m/s, bringing fresh breezes and occasional sunshine.

Spring in the region typically brings warmer days, reaching up to 12°C, alongside cooler nights around 5°C. While frost and fog can still occur, the recent forecast had shown no immediate signs of such conditions. Historical records, however, note that early spring can bring sudden cold snaps or even snow. Now, with patchy fog rolling in overnight, officials have stressed the need for heightened caution. Drivers are advised to slow down and use low beams, while pedestrians should stay alert near roads.

The fog is expected to clear by Sunday afternoon. Until then, reduced visibility will pose risks for both road users and those outdoors. Local services remain on standby to assist if conditions worsen.
