In a chilling display of inhumanity, two innocent calf lives were mercilessly extinguished in their confines. This heinous act occurred at the AWO Ingenhammshof learning and teaching farm, nestled on the outskirts of Duisburg-Nord's Landschaftspark.
On the unforgiving morning of September 18, around 4:40 a.m., an unidentified individual sprung into action. Climbing over the farm's fence, the villain marched towards the nearest barn, where the calves resided. Geared with a small shoulder bag, the mysterious figure preceded to torch the barn with torch-lit papers, confirming their intention to inflict harm upon the unsuspecting animals.
Caught on surveillance cameras, the arsonist without remorse sauntered across the yard, leaving a long shadow cast by the outdoor spotlight. In a seemingly casual phone call, they may have vindicated their despicable deed. The barn burned thoroughly, leaving naught but ashes behind, and the unfortunate calves in its wake.
Plagued by this torment, the community rallies together, albeit in vain, as rescue services manage to prevent the loss of additional lives, as the fire did not manage to spread to adjacent buildings. Whilst the remaining 60 horses, donkeys, chickens, and other livestock remain safe, lurking questions of security plague the public's mind.
Bad memories resurface, as the farm's past is tainted with a similar tragedy that transpired eight years prior; an arsonist's previous act of cruelty claimed the lives of one horse and seven sheep. Whilst the culprit was apprehended and indicted, justice evaded swift completion, and Duisburg's farming commits would continue to suffer.
As the investigation ensues, eyewitnesses and any with vital information are implored to come forth. The arsonist, aged between 16-30, with dark hair, is slender, and stood at 1.60-1.80 meters tall. Clad in a light-colored long-sleeved top and short dark trousers, with light-colored shoes adorned with black appliqués, the perpetrator's distinctive features remain as the only clues to the heinous crime.
Additionally, the farm, demonstrating exceptional resilience, has been able to rebound from the tragedy, ensuring the remaining livestock's wellbeing.
