Affordable Electric Vehicles on the Horizon
The quest for pocket-friendly electric cars is finally gaining momentum
The demand for budget-friendly electric vehicles (EVs) has been bubbling under the surface for some time now. A survey conducted by Allianz Direct Versicherung reveals that 53% of German car enthusiasts couldn't fathom owning an EV due to the high initial price. However, hope springs anew as manufacturers like Renault and Citroën are vowing to cook up cheaper alternatives in the coming years.
Bargain Basement: Citroën ë-C3 200
Citroën is the first to set a conservative price for its electric mini-SUV. The ë-C3, which will make its debut in spring 2024, will cut a fine figure with its 113-hp electric motor and a range of up to 320 kilometers. And at a base price of €23,300, it will provide a lot of EV for a not-too-large amount of money!

Budget Busters: Renault's Twingo and R5 E-Tech
Renault and Citroën aren't the only manufacturers jumping on the affordable EV bandwagon. Renault's Twingo will make a comeback in a more budget-friendly guise with an estimated price under €20,000. And let's not forget about the R5 E-Tech, inspired by a classic Renault model, which is set to launch in 2024 for less than €25,000.

Affordable Options From Volkswagen and Skoda
Volkswagen's introducing its ID.2all, made possible by its new "MEB Entry" platform, promising a tag of less than €25,000 for the basic version. The small VW SUV on the same platform, both set to arrive in 2026, will further push the envelope of affordability. As for Skoda, the Czech automaker plans to drop an SUV on the MEB entry platform, priced similarly to the VW ID.2all.
