Therapist defeats DoorDash in trademark battle over Leaddash.io
A small-business owner has won a legal fight against a major food delivery company over a trademark dispute. Dr. Ashley Bryant, a therapist, successfully defended her business name, Leaddash.io, after DoorDash challenged its similarity to their own brand. The case unfolded entirely online, with Bryant representing herself throughout the process.
The dispute began when Bryant applied to trademark Leaddash.io for her therapy practice. DoorDash opposed the request, claiming the name was too close to theirs and could cause confusion.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) handled the case remotely, with Bryant managing her own legal arguments. After months of exchanges, DoorDash withdrew its opposition in February 2023. The USPTO Board later dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning DoorDash cannot challenge Bryant's trademark again.
Bryant's application for Leaddash.io is now awaiting final registration. No public records from the USPTO indicate that this case has set a precedent for similar disputes between small businesses and large corporations.
The ruling prevents DoorDash from taking further action against Bryant's trademark. Her business name, Leaddash.io, remains on track for official registration. The outcome resolves the dispute without broader legal implications for future trademark cases.
