East German Timeless Masterpiece Set for Performance at Beelitz Theater Stage, Starring Maxe Baumann - "Theatric presentation of German classic featuring Maxe Baumann in Beelitz"
News Article: "Beelitz Festival Presents Classic DDR Play 'Maxe Baumann – Ferien ohne Ende' in August 2025"
The Beelitz Festival is set to bring a touch of nostalgia with the performance of the DDR classic play, "Maxe Baumann – Ferien ohne Ende," at the Freilichtbühne Beelitz this August. The play, a 1976 comedy about a retiree's chaotic attempts to organise his retirement, will premiere on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 19:00, with additional performances on August 15-16 and August 21 onward.
The play, which moves from the Spree to the Nieplitz, revolves around the character of Maxe Baumann, who wonders what to do with his retirement. Gerd E. Schäfer, the son of the original lead actor, is responsible for this production and has revised the play slightly for the current production. Gerd E. Schäfer also plays the lead role, with Alexander G. Schäfer portraying Maxe Baumann. Alongside them, the cast includes Heike Köfer, Achim Wolff, Rita Feldmeier, and citizen actor Lars Dietrich.
The venue for the performance is the open-air stage Freilichtbühne Beelitz, located at 14547 Beelitz. Tickets were available for the premiere and subsequent dates, with entry starting from 18:00. Discounts include free admission for children up to 6 years, 50% off for children aged 6–15, and free entry for companions of severely disabled persons. The performance on Sunday, August 24, 2025, starts at 15:00.
The play, a true classic from the DDR era, is still something special for those who experienced it back then, according to a city of Beelitz spokesperson. With a total of eight performances scheduled until August 24, early booking is advisable due to the festival's popularity and limited seating at the outdoor venue.
This information covers the 2025 edition; future dates for "Maxe Baumann" at Beelitz Festival beyond 2025 are not currently available. The play's announcement stated that it will be full of chaos, as Maxe Baumann proved to millions of enthusiastic viewers in the namesake film series. If you plan to attend, don't miss out on this chance to witness a piece of DDR history come to life on stage.
