Living the Thrill Every Day: Angela Bruch and Her Marvel, the Alpina-Bahn

Meet Angela Bruch, a woman who smiles audaciously every morning, anticipating her daily dose of adrenaline - a spin on her very own roller coaster, the Alpina-Bahn. "I make it a point to take the inaugural ride each day," says the Alpina-Bahn boss, proudly owning the world's largest loop-free transportable roller coaster.

"She's an icon of the Rhine Carnival," boasts Düsseldorf's Mayor Stephan Keller, with local shooters' club, St. Sebastianus Shooting Club of 1316, echoing the sentiment. On a recent Monday (17.7.), the mayor and club chief Michael Zieren honored Angela Bruch at the town hall, acknowledging her significant efforts towards making the Rhine Carnival one of the most visited fairs of the year.

The club honoring started with Angela's father in 1999, his contributions to the annual fair garnering recognition. "I'm standing on the shoulders of legends," says Angela, reflecting her heritage. Her ancestor August Bruch, at the age of 21 and during the German Revolution, purchased a horse carousel to sell at fairs. Later, in 1896, the Bruch family acquired a Russian swing business, marking their entry into roller coasters. Interestingly, this was a year prior to the establishment of the giant wheel in the Vienna Prater.

Angela initially aimed for a career in law, having enrolled at university. However, due to a staff shortage, her parents requested her assistance within the show business realm. It didn't take long for the passion to ignite within her. She abandoned her studies to become a showman, eventually becoming the manager and partner of the Alpina-Bahn, which began operations in 1997. Three years ago, a renovation costing 2.5 million euros introduced new wagons to the ride, making the experience more comfortable and braking gentler, according to Angela.

The Rhine Carnival on Oberkassel meadows runs until Sunday (23.7.). Among the highlights is the spectacular fireworks display on Friday evening (21.7.) at 10:30 PM. The Alpina-Bahn roller coaster, managed by the fearless Angela Bruch, continues to thrill visitors and stand as a testament to the spirit of this captivating annual event.

Angela Bruch, a woman known for her daily dose of adrenaline, not only manages the Alpina-Bahn, the world's largest loop-free transportable roller coaster, but also contributes significantly to the lifestyle, entertainment, and sports scene of the Rhine Carnival. Her dedication to the fair has turned it into one of the most visited events of the year, offering thrilling rides and exciting entertainment for all.
