The cursed streak of the alpine ski racers continues as another event gets scrapped due to foul weather. Fortunately, Canadian athlete Broderick Thompson, who endured a ghastly crash with head injuries on Wednesday, seems to be on the mend, as per Canadian media.

The recent downhill race in Beaver Creek, United States, was a no-go due to an excessive amount of new snow and poor visibility. Organizers had even attempted to clear the course overnight, but their efforts were in vain as the obstacles proved insurmountable. The spectators and racers can only pray for ameliorated weather conditions for the subsequent downhill on Saturday and super-G on Sunday, both scheduled for 6:45 PM CET.

The "Birds of Prey" slope has been cursed with negative headlines thus far, as only one of the first five men's races has been classified. The inaugural giant slalom in Sölden was hit by strong gusts of wind, while the two Matterhorn runs initially planned didn't even get off the ground due to fresh snow and tempests. However, the only race that has been classified was marred by climate protests, causing disruption and anger among the fans and racers.

  • Austria: The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships 2025 in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is set to enjoy cold and snowy weather, with 20-40 cm of snow expected to fall over the next 4 days. These conditions are ideal for the ongoing races, such as downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom competitions.
  • Switzerland: Light to moderate snowfalls are forecasted over the coming 48 hours, delivering another 5-20 cm of snow to the region. Temperatures will remain chilly, ensuring continued satisfaction for the ski areas.
  • Pyrenees: The region has already witnessed its best seasonal conditions, with copious snowfall continuing to fall. This has resulted in unparalleled terrain and fabulous powder skiing.

For now, the hope is to conquer the adverse weather troubles and relaunch the alpine ski racing, commencing with the second downhill and super-G.
