TSV Malente Shines at the Viking Cup Swimming Competition
The Viking Cup swimming competition, held at the university hall in Kiel on Midsummer Saturday, saw the participation of 407 young swimmers from 27 different clubs. Among them was TSV Malente, who were accompanied by coach Sven Kühnel and officials Michaela Mohr, Sünte Schwarten, and trainee official Lilian Reese.
TSV Malente's swimmers put up impressive performances, with several athletes achieving personal best times. Melissa Mohr, for instance, swam to new personal bests in the 50m backstroke (46.18 seconds), 50m breaststroke (48.15 seconds), and 50m freestyle (38.03 seconds).
Nick Borchardt also had a successful day, securing 4th place in the 50m backstroke, 6th place in the 50m breaststroke, and 3rd place in the 50m freestyle, setting personal bests in each event. Jonte Schwarten also shone, securing 8th place in the 50m breaststroke with a personal best of 45.66 seconds and also finishing 8th in the 50m freestyle with a personal best of 37.10 seconds. Enno Kühnel, another TSV Malente swimmer, clocked personal bests in all three events: 42.75 seconds for the 50m backstroke, 48.76 seconds for the 50m breaststroke, and 34.75 seconds for the 50m freestyle.
Thomas Hämmer, the TSV Malente's master swimmer, also had a successful outing. He recently competed at the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein Master Championships and the German Master Championships, and he won the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke events at the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein Master Championships on May 11. At the German Master Championships in Dresden on June 1, he secured 7th place in the 50m freestyle and 5th place in the 50m breaststroke. Tilda Schwarten, another TSV Malente swimmer, finished 7th in the 50m backstroke (43.73 seconds) and 50m breaststroke (46.94 seconds) at the German Master Championships.
Marco Rutz, the department head, congratulated everyone on their performances and thanked Thomas for his dedication to TSV Malente. He also extended thanks to all volunteer coaches and officials, including Birgit Behr, Ina Steinke, Wiebke Kayser-Bauch, Sarah Lütt, Marcel Bohnsack, Johannes Kunsleben, Rüdiger Pfau, Sven Kühnel, Michaela Mohr, Björn Mohr, Sünte Schwarten, Ailien Schultze-Entrup, Hans Stock, Annka Seibt, Lucie Ulrich, and Lili Reese.
The competition started at 13:00 and ended at 18:00. The Viking Cup swimming competition featured Seahorse, Bronze, Silver, and Gold courses for swimmers of varying abilities.
