The Vengeful Vigilante, Frank Castle, Resumes His Deadly Crusade as the Punisher Anew
Get Ready for a Bloody Return!
For those who've missed the gritty action of Frank Castle, the Punisher, prepare for a comeback. The indomitable anti-hero is making a splash in the comic realm with the upcoming miniseries, Punisher: Red Band.
Penning this blood-soaked odyssey are the powerhouses, Benjamin Percy (Wolverine) and Julius Ohta (Iron Man). The last time Frank was seen was in 2023, where he seized control of the Hand ninja cult, discovered his wife was alive and contemplating a divorce, and embarked on an adventure to Weirdworld.
When we pick up with Frank this time, he's back in New York, void of his past memories, but still as lethal as ever. Ready to spill some blood, much like his TV counterpart, this Frank is gearing up for a storm of carnage. The "Red Band" label on this miniseries signifies that it will contain more explicit content than usual.
As Percy puts it, "Frank Castle is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Punisher is a series I've been eager to bring to life for a long, long time. I'm diving headfirst into this, pushing the very limits of my favorite genre: hairy psychopaths. This is going to be as gritty and bloody as it gets. Street-level chaos awaits you."
Marvel's struggle to the right path with Frank has been a rollercoaster. Some of this ambiguity can be attributed to the timing of a heavily armed vigilante in the wake of mass shootings, while other instances were due to the co-option of his symbol by law enforcement agencies[4]. The upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, addressed the latter concern by having Frank dispatch a group of Punisher police officers, deeming their use of the symbol disheartening[6].
Mark your calendars, as Punisher: Red Band is set to commence on September 10, 2025.
