The Upcoming Game of Thrones Sequel Will Debut Next Year

Fans of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series will have to wait a bit longer for the upcoming HBO spin-off, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." Initially slated for late 2025, the series is now expected to premiere in early 2026.

The series, based on Martin's "Dunk and Egg" tales, was originally planned to release on Max. However, recent announcements have clarified a delay to 2026. This delay was confirmed during a Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation, following a first look teaser.

Filming for the series took place in 2024, and it is expected to consist of six episodes. The show is set a century before the events of "Game of Thrones" and follows two unlikely heroes, Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, as they navigate the complex politics and dangers of Westeros.

George R.R. Martin himself has had nothing but praise for the new spin-off, adding to the anticipation among fans. However, there are no updates on the release of his long-awaited book, "The Winds of Winter," or the new Dunk and Egg stories.

Meanwhile, the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne in the series, with no updates on the passing of the last dragon's memory from living memory. The release date for "House of the Dragon" season three has not been set yet.

"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is joining the list of Game of Thrones-adjacent entertainment that fans are eagerly waiting for. The official synopsis of the series was shared by HBO in June 2024.
