In an interview with La Noche on Canal 24 Horas, the former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, expressed his disapproval towards the EU's handling of Israel's actions in Gaza.

Borrell dismissed the plan to partially suspend the EU's free trade agreement with Israel, calling it a 'joke.' He criticized the EU for doing little or nothing regarding Israel's actions and questioned when President Von der Leyen discovered that Israel's actions were intolerable.

More than 350,000 people fled the city of Gaza amid Israeli bombing and troop advances. Borrell criticized the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for acting 'too late, 40,000 deaths too late.'

Borrell heavily criticized the 'theocratic fascist regime' of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He found the impunity with which Israel acts, referring to its past with Nazi Germany, particularly concerning. Borrell also criticized the radical ultra-Orthodox groups he believes play a significant role in Israel's actions.

The EU has proposed to limit the commercial advantages to Israel and other sanctions, but these measures will need the countries' support. Borrell insists that 'moral values' can guide a government's actions, questioning whether doing nothing is the alternative.

Borrell found the semantic debates about whether what is happening in Gaza is genocide or not 'boring.' He referred to parties denying the genocide against the resolution of an independent UN commission, stating that there may come a time when Germans may need to seek help from psychiatrists if they feel bad about Nazi crimes, comparing it to the Palestinian situation.

Borrell also dedicated words to the suspension of the Vuelta and criticized the hyperbolic statements made by Madrid's President, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, comparing the situation in Gaza with the siege of Sarajevo.

In contrast, Borrell praised the position of the Spanish government led by Pedro Sánchez, dismissing the idea that its proactivity is aimed at covering up corruption scandals affecting the socialists.

Finally, Borrell stated that measures like not participating in Eurovision punish the Israeli people, not the government. He believes that such actions could potentially lead to a change in Israel's actions, but only as long as Trump continues to support Netanyahu.
