Lee Bartram, head of commercial, marketing, and cultural influence at Gibson EMEA, discussed the guitar's design in an interview with The Gibson Gazette.
The guitar is more than just a piece of equipment; it's a meticulously crafted masterpiece. Built by Gibson's Murphy Lab, it boasts a 60s slim neck profile and custom light aging to simulate vintage wear. This limited edition guitar, launched exclusively at the Gibson Garage London, is a strictly limited signature-style edition model, limited to only 25 units. Each guitar is hand-signed by Noel Gallagher and comes with handwritten lyric sheets representing classic Oasis songs from the tour, making them collectors' items.
However, it's essential to clarify that this limited edition is more of a super-limited custom replica rather than a full-fledged, mass-produced signature guitar. It resembles Gibson's previous approach with Johnny Marr's limited run guitars, intended as exclusive confections primarily for collectors and fans rather than a permanent signature line in Gibson's catalog.
Noel Gallagher has been spotted playing this guitar prominently throughout the Oasis reunion tour. Interestingly, Bartram revealed that Gallagher sends the guitar back for more aging if needed. It's unclear from Instagram shots if the control knobs have also received the Light Aged treatment.
The guitar features a black pickguard, black top hat control knobs with silver inserts, a SlimTaper neck, Custom Shop P-90s, Light Aged magic from the Murphy Lab applied to its Ebony paint job, and grover tuners with kidney bean-style buttons. The aged-nickel covers on the P-90s were particularly challenging for Gibson to recreate.
As the band continues their reunion tour, the custom black Gibson Les Paul Standard remains a significant part of Noel Gallagher's arsenal. Fans of the band and guitar enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting any news about the possibility of ordering a similar guitar via Gibson's Made To Measure program or a more budget-friendly Gallagher guitar, like his signature Epiphone Riviera.
