"The summer sports initiative 'Fifth Quarter - 2025' has been successfully concluded in the Auto Plant district"
Summer Sports Project "Fifth Quarter" Concludes in Nizhny Novgorod
The summer sports project "Fifth Quarter" concluded recently in the Avtozavodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, marking its 15th year. The project, which was popular among local residents, was overseen by Alexander Nagin, the head of the district.
This year, the project won the "Young Nizhny" grant competition, allowing for the organisation of two shifts for children aged 11-14. The grant win culminated in the presentation of commemorative gifts from the Avtozavodsky District Administration.
The project combined sports training with an educational program, with participants engaging in daily basketball, streetball, football, checkers, and tennis tournaments. They also visited a horse sports club, where they learned about the history of equestrian sports, and went horseback riding.
Other educational activities included workshops led by experienced coaches from sports schools, first aid classes by the All-Russian Student Rescue Corps, and tours of the Nizhny Novgorod Metro Museum at the "Komsomolskaya" station. Participants even had the opportunity to learn about the work of metro drivers and cashiers.
Highlights of the project included a visit to Fire Station No. 46 and a game of laser tag to conclude the programme.
Vera Khomenko, a participant in the project, expressed her appreciation for the experience. She stated that she never thought about the effort that goes into running a metro system before and was surprised to learn that the first station in Nizhny Novgorod is "Leninskaya."
Nagin stated that the project enriched the summer leisure time of the participants, providing them with a unique and educational experience.
Nizhny Novgorod is known for its active engagement in sports development and cultural cooperation projects. Local and regional authorities and organisations promote youth sports and cultural integration, often in collaboration with institutions from Belarus and across Russia. These initiatives usually offer various sports activities designed to promote physical health, teamwork, discipline, and social skills among children and teenagers, contributing positively to their overall learning and personal development.
