Holstein Kiel Prepares for Season Opener Against SC Paderborn with Unresolved Goalkeeper Situation
Holstein Kiel, the relegated Bundesliga team, is gearing up for their season opener against SC Paderborn on Saturday at 13:00 CET. The game will be broadcast on Sky.
Despite the excitement surrounding the new season, coach Marcel Rapp has yet to decide on the goalkeeper for Holstein Kiel. The departure of Thomas Dähne, who became the first-choice keeper late last season, has left a void that the team is still trying to fill. Dähne has moved to 1860 Munich.
To address this, Holstein Kiel has signed Kasper Davidsen from Aalborg BK for €1.6 million, indicating he is likely to be their new goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season. However, the goalkeeper question may not be completely resolved yet.
Younger goalkeepers such as Phil Harres, a 23-year-old who has yet to make appearances this season but is part of the squad, may also be considered as backup options. Nevertheless, Kasper Davidsen appears to be the main new signing intended to fill the first-choice keeper role after Dähne’s exit.
The decision on the goalkeeper for Holstein Kiel is expected to be communicated to the team latest tomorrow, providing some much-needed clarity ahead of the season opener.

The Commission, amidst the fervor of European leagues' sports like football, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, such as those potentially encountered by goalkeepers like Kasper Davidsen who are preparing for the new season, as he joins Holstein Kiel with the hope of becoming their first-choice keeper following Dähne's departure. Regardless of the final decision regarding the goalkeeper, the opener against SC Paderborn shall proceed as scheduled at 13:00 CET on Saturday.
