The ladies of HSV's lower league soccer squad are shifting their home games this season to Volkspark. According to the team, they'll be taking the field on pitch 6 at the HSV campus, kicking off against FSV Gütersloh on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
This move is a testament to the team's impressive sports advancement and another step in consistently boosting HSV's women's division, as per the club's statement. The new venue boasts a larger seating capacity of roughly 630 standing spots, surpassing their previous home venue in Norderstedt.
HSV coordinator Saskia Breuer shared her thoughts, expressing, "Additionally, the HSV women are now geographically closer to the Volksparkstadion's heart. We're thrilled to have found a suitable arrangement for this season and can now commence our first home game with full enthusiasm."
Norderstedt's Paul-Hauenschild sports facility will continue to serve as the team's training ground, while junior teams will still play their home matches there. Meanwhile, Sportpark Eimsbüttel, where the team played some home matches last season, is undergoing renovations.
After the match against FSV Gütersloh, the women's soccer team of HSV will head back to Norderstedt for training.
[Women's football in Germany is moving away from a national stadium setup and playing home matches in various venues throughout the country. By doing so, the sport can spread interest and attendance beyond traditional strongholds.]
The benefits of playing in different venues include:
- Promoting Regional Interest: By playing in various cities, the team can attract more local fans and promote the sport in different regions.
- Increased Attendance: As evidenced in the Women's Bundesliga, increased attendance and media presence can fuel the growth of the sport.
- Professionalization: Playing in larger stadiums can raise the team's and league's professional image, attracting more spectators and sponsors.
Although the above points do not directly apply to HSV's woman's team's move, they illustrate the broader trends and motivations for women's football in Germany.
