"The 'SKA-Uralsky Tubnik' team is assuredly advancing to the Russia Cup play-off"
Trubnik Finishes Russian Cup Group Stage in Second Place
The Sverdlovsk hockey club, SKA-Uralsky Trubnik, has achieved its best result in recent years by finishing the group stage of the Russian Cup in second place. With 13 points earned, the team overtook the country's vice-champion, Arkhangelsk's Vodnik, in the standings.
Trubnik's successful run began with two hard-fought victories against Kirov's Rodina and Nizhny Novgorod's Start. However, the team suffered a defeat against Moscow's Dinamo, the only loss in the group stage. The team bounced back with victories against Kazan's Ak Bars-Dynamo and Ulyanovsk's Volga, finishing the group stage with four wins and one draw.
The team's quarter-final opponent will be Enisey from Krasnoyarsk. In the previous season, these two teams exchanged away victories in their head-to-head matches. The quarter-final match will take place on October 2 in Moscow.
Dmitry Shchetinin, the head coach of Trubnik, expressed that while the results are good, optimism is not fully instilled as the team has not reached its desired level, and there is still work to be done. The team had to show character to draw with Vodnik in an exciting match, and the defeat against Dinamo was a setback, with Trubnik leading twice before conceding five consecutive goals, resulting in a 4-6 defeat.
Trubnik started the Russian Cup with three consecutive victories, and the final game in the group stage was a victory against Volga. Despite the positive results, the team is focused on improving and reaching new heights in the upcoming matches.
