The process unfolds for the mayoral and council elections.

The city of Bergisch Gladbach is gearing up for runoff elections on September 28, with the race for both the mayoral position and the district administrator role heating up.

In the mayoral election, Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens) will face off in a debate on Saturday at 12 PM, located at the Schlosstreppe in Schlossstraße, Bensberg. After the debate, attendees can visit the Bensberger Herbstfest at the same location.

Voters who wish to participate in the runoff elections have several options. The direct voting office of the city will be open from September 22 to September 28 for voting in the runoff elections. The office will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM, closing at 3 PM on the Friday before the election.

For those who prefer mail-in voting, applications can be made until September 26 at 3 PM. Mail-in voting cards will be issued, and voters who have requested it will receive voting materials by mail. It's important to note that if a voter has requested mail-in voting, they will not be able to vote at the direct voting office or the polling station to prevent double voting.

Voters who are unsure if they have requested mail-in voting can contact the voting office at 02202 / 14 2888 or by email at [email protected].

In the runoff election, voters will receive two ballots: one for the election of the mayor and one for the election of the district administrator. New voters can apply for postal voting via the link on the homepage, by email to [email protected], or by letter to Wahlbüro, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 9, 51465 Bergisch Gladbach.

A voter ID or personal ID is sufficient for voting at the direct voting office. Voters are advised not to wait until the last minute to vote at the direct voting office. On election day, voters can vote at their usual polling station.

In the first round of voting, neither the mayoral nor the district administrator candidates reached 50% of the votes, necessitating the runoff elections. Arne von Boetticher (CDU) won the runoff election for the office of district administrator in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis against Robert Winkels (SPD).

Voting for the runoff elections will be based on the same voter registry as the main election. Voters are encouraged to exercise their right to vote and help shape the future of their city.
