Max Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing F1 driver, is set to make a significant shift in gears as he prepares for his GT3 debut at the Nürburgring this weekend. This marks a step towards his long-held dream of participating in the legendary 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

Verstappen has secured a license for further Eifel appearances in more powerful vehicles following his first NLS start in a detuned Porsche Cayman GT4. His passion for GT race cars has been praised by his fellow drivers, with Alex Albon, who travelled to Baku with Verstappen, expressing his admiration for the Dutch driver's commitment to the Nürburgring adventure.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull's sports director, has given his approval for Verstappen's potential participation in the 24-hour race. The Ferrari 296 GT3 of the Emil Frey team is ready for Verstappen's debut, and he will be representing Red Bull Racing in the event.

Verstappen is not a total rookie to the Nordschleife. Despite a somewhat unexciting car experience, he has found opportunities to learn, and his driving habits have been commended by Liam Lawson, Toro Rosso driver, who shared a rental car experience at the Nürburgring with Verstappen and Albon.

Lawson, who has also had a taste of GT3 racing in the DTM, found the racing to be exciting, with closer fights compared to Formula 1. Ollie Bearman, Haas rookie, has expressed envy towards Verstappen's Nürburgring adventure and praised his driving skills.

Verstappen's participation in the NLS race this weekend is an opportunity for him to obtain a license for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. However, he has expressed caution regarding his participation in the 24-hour race next year, citing the challenges of a Formula 1 season and new regulations.

Max Verstappen thanked the responsible parties for their understanding and assistance in obtaining the license. The 'Nordschleife permit' was issued despite only one practice lap on one car due to a damaged Porsche. Verstappen's journey towards the 24-hour race continues, and fans are eager to see how he fares in this new challenge.
