The Political Leadership of Selina Meyer - VEEP: An Exploration of Her Presidential Strategies and Challenges
New and Improved Article:
Hey there, buddy! You know what's happening these days, right? We're smack-dab in the heat of an important election. It's got my blood pressure skyrocketing, making me itch to dial up some strangers for campaigning, clashing with buddies on social media, and of course, binge-watching one of my all-time favorites, Veep, starring the fantastic Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Today, let's dive into the awe-inspiring costumes of Veep!
Veep, a laugh-a-minute political satire on HBO, follows the tumultuous journey of Vice President, Selina Meyer. Through this show, we witness Selina navigate constant political chaos, relationships, and multiple elections. If you haven't watched it yet, give it a shot – it's a must-see! But what truly makes Veep stand out is Selina's fashion. Jen Rogien, the brilliant costume designer, was the mastermind behind Selina's wardrobe – have you ever heard of her? Well, she got things rolling for 18 episodes from 2012 to 2013, and then Kathleen Felix-Hager took over for a impressive 47 episodes from 2014 to 2019.
Now, let me tell you something sad – America still hasn’t seen a female president or vice-president. So when it came to dressing Selina, the costume designers got to really let loose and add their own unique touch to her style. As Kathleen Felix-Hager revealed to Steff Yotka in an interview with VOGUE, "in the world of Veep, she was the first woman vice president and the first woman president; there were no fashion rules we had to follow since none existed". The designers opted for bold, bright colors, and powerful silhouettes that reinforced the idea of a world that'd be far better with strong, confident women in charge.
Here's a peek at some of my favorite costumes worn by Selina Meyer – check 'em out!
