Track by Pointer Sisters ascends on Spotify charts - The Pointer Sisters Make Their Debut on Spotify

You might be familiar with tracks like "Jump (For My Love)" or "I'm So Excited" by American soul band The Pointer Sisters. Thanks to the extravaganza of the new "Grand Theft Auto 6" trailer dropped on Wednesday, a tune by the group that's been flying under the radar until now is shooting to the top of the charts: "Hot Together," released in 1986.

This nearly four-decade-old track holds a starring role in the nearly three-minute trailer for the much-anticipated video game and is resonating with gamers. Within a few hours of the clip's release, "Hot Together" views on YouTube and other platforms skyrocketed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spotify has announced an astonishing 182,000% increase in play count in those few hours.

A representative from the gaming outlet IGN shared: "Grand Theft Auto slices through pop culture like nothing else. Music has been the heartbeat of the series since the beginning, so it's incredible to see the community embracing a classic track like this."

Despite the fact that none of the original members of the band are around to witness this success, June Pointer passed away in 2006, and her sisters Bonnie and Anita in 2020 and 2022, respectively, Ruth Pointer, the oldest sister and a member since 1972, continues to carry the band's torch. Since 2002 she's been performing with her daughter Issa, and since 2009, she's been sharing the stage with her grandniece Sadako Pointer Johnson as The Pointer Sisters.

Trailer Sets Gaming World Abuzz

The second trailer for "GTA 6" from thengame-creator studio Rockstar Games has garnered 85 million views on YouTube alone (as of May 8, 12 pm). As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the total views across all platforms have already surpassed the half-billion mark.

The frenzy for the fresh installment of the expansive open-world game series remains unabated. On one hand, the news of the game's release being delayed from this year to May 26, 2026, has generated a buzz. On the other hand, anticipation for the highly-anticipated game is at an all-time high.
