The Operational Mechanics of Fantasy Champions League contrasted with FPL, key distinctions to be aware of
The world of fantasy football is about to get even more exciting with the introduction of Fantasy Champions League, a competition similar to the popular Fantasy Premier League, but with a twist. Sponsored by PlayStation, this new platform promises thrilling rewards for participants.
In the Fantasy Champions League, you start with an initial budget of €100m to build a 15-player squad consisting of two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders, and three forwards. The scoring system is almost identical to the Fantasy Premier League system, with captains earning double points and centre-forwards contributing significantly to your overall score.
Each gameweek, you get a certain number of free transfers, with a four-point penalty for each player over the limit. The number of transfers allowed increases during the knockout phase: 2 transfers per matchday in the league phase, 5 before the first legs of the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals.
One interesting feature of the Fantasy Champions League is the rollover system. If you don't use your free transfer in a gameweek, you can roll it over into the next one, but they do not accumulate over the season. Moreover, once a change is made, it's permanent, and no automatic substitutions will be made, even if a player doesn't play.
During the knockout phase, you also get additional benefits. In between legs in the round of 16, quarters, and semis, you get 3 free transfers to make ahead of the second leg. (In between the two legs of the knockout phase play-offs, it's only 2 free transfers).
Another unique aspect of the Fantasy Champions League is the flexibility to manually make substitutions or change your captain if you are unsatisfied with their performance, even if they have already played. Changing the captain or the order of substitutes counts as a manual change, and no automatic substitutions will be made.
The competition also offers two wildcard windows in which you can make unlimited transfers: after the league phase is over, and before the round of 16. However, only players from the clubs participating in the Champions League knockout stage can be added, with an additional budget of €4.5 million provided.
While the details about prizes and how to win them have yet to be announced, the Fantasy Champions League promises an exciting and engaging football experience. So, are you ready to take on the challenge and become the Fantasy Champions League champion?
