"The Obstinate Youth Exits the Political Gathering" - NNPP Responds to Senator Sumaila's Departure to APC

In a surprising move, Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila has decided to part ways with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This switch, as the senator put it, is a commitment to his constituents in Kano South.

Speaking to the media, the Kano NNPP Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, expressed that the party is not shocked by this decision. In Dungurawa's opinion, Sumaila's defection will bring a sense of peace to the party and allow them to concentrate on their mission without the disruption caused by the senator. Dungurawa also described Sumaila as a stubborn individual who was causing unnecessary trouble within the party.

Contrary to rumors, Dungurawa insists that Sumaila's departure will not instigate a mass exodus of other prominent politicians such as former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. However, the NNPP leadership has previously suspended both Sumaila and Rurum for what they perceive as anti-party activities.

Sumaila, when asked about his decision, remained firm in his belief that he is acting in the best interest of his constituents. He clarified that he does not regret leaving the NNPP and is working to find the best solution for his people's welfare.

Behind the Scenes

Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila's decision to switch parties is rooted in his emphasis on local representation and constituency-focused politics. However, internal tensions within the NNPP and procedural disagreements may have played a role in his decision to leave the party without formal notification. This shift, like many others, is indicative of the ongoing political realignments in Kano State and beyond.
