The new trailer for 'The Paper' has been released, featuring a former employee from 'The Office' making a comeback
Get ready for a return to Dunder Mifflin, sort of! The Office spinoff, The Paper, is set to premiere on September 4, 2025, exclusively on Showcase and streaming on STACKTV.
The Paper follows the documentary crew, now shifting their focus to a new subject—a declining Midwestern newspaper called the Toledo Truth Teller in Ohio. The series centres around the optimistic Editor-in-Chief Ned Sampson, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who is trying to restore the struggling newspaper to its former glory while addressing the contemporary challenges in journalism.
The show mocks and explores the decline of traditional journalism and the challenges faced by print media today. Unlike The Office, which focused on paper sales, The Paper shows the journalists' efforts in newsgathering and reporting in this changing world.
The cast includes Domhnall Gleeson as Ned Sampson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and returning from The Office, Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez.
The series is co-created and co-directed by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, continuing the mockumentary style with a fresh setting and new characters, while remaining connected to The Office universe.
The Paper is set in a building where the newspaper has slipped to being an afterthought in its 100-plus year history. The trailer opens with Tim Key's character, the publisher at the Toledo Truth Teller, listing off the products now being made in the same building, in order of quality: toilet tissue, toilet seat protectors, and local newspapers.
Sabrina Impacciatore's character in The Paper reveals an article she's proud of, which is about Ben Affleck's tip to his limo driver. Former The Office accountant Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nuñez) also appears in The Paper.
The Paper is a mockumentary series, similar to the original, but follows another struggling industry, a Midwest local newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. It's "technically" a spinoff of The Office because it features Oscar's character.
