In the world of music, the German charts have seen a significant shift, with the soundtrack of the Netflix animated series, KPop Demon Hunters, making a massive impact.

The latest number one in the albums chart is the live album "Roger Waters: This Is Not A Drill - Live From Prague" by Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters. However, the spotlight this week belongs to the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, which has climbed up to number two.

One of the standout tracks from the series, "Golden" by the fictional group Huntr/x, has taken the number one spot in the pop singles chart. The success of "Golden" can be attributed to several factors. The series, released on Netflix on June 20, 2025, was met with critical acclaim, boosting the popularity of its original soundtrack. "Golden" debuted on the soundtrack album released the same day and was praised for its catchy composition and meaningful lyrics. Republic Records, recognising its potential, officially released "Golden" as a single on July 4, 2025, and actively promoted it with plans to push it to top 40 radio stations and planned remixes by notable artists, including a remix by David Guetta released on July 25. The combination of the film's wide popularity, strong streaming performance, and coordinated marketing efforts by Republic Records led "Golden" to achieve top positions on multiple international charts, including reaching number one on the official German charts.

KPop Demon Hunters is currently a pop cultural phenomenon, with six other songs from the series featured in the singles chart. "Your Idol", "How It's Done", "Soda Pop", "Takedown", "What It Sounds Like", and "Free" are all present, with "Your Idol" at number 15, "How It's Done" at number 17, "Soda Pop" at number 20, "Takedown" at number 29, "What It Sounds Like" at number 30, and "Free" at number 53. In the singles chart, rapper Aymen and music producer Sira are now at number three with "30 mal am Tag", while Amo & Aymen's song "Love All Night" is at number five. German rapper Amo's album "SSJ" is also at number five in the albums chart.

The album charts see Kolja Goldstein's album "Kouwe Ouwe" debut at number three, while the soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters holds strong at number two. US singer Reneé Rapp's album "Bite Me" is at number four. Last week's number one, Gzuz, has slipped to 15 with his album "Scherbenhaus".

In summary, the success of "Golden" and other songs from KPop Demon Hunters in Germany is a testament to the power of synergy between a film's acclaim and audience reach, a song's intrinsic musical appeal, and strategic release and promotion efforts by the record label. The series continues to be a pop cultural phenomenon, with its impact felt strongly in the German music charts.
