The Most Shocking Episode of The Last of Us Alters Its Course Irrevocably

Man, they actually did it! You thought you were watching a Pedro Pascal show, but in Sunday's second episode of The Last of Us season two, they offed Pedro's character. Yup, Joel is dead. This shocking moment is bound to set the stage for everything that follows this season and next.

Before we delve into the aftermath, let's rewind to the thrilling action scenes that led up to Joel's demise. The second episode kicked off with Abby, wandering through a hospital, scared out of her wits, having a nightmare about the gory aftermath of the event we've been waiting to see on TV. We soon find out that her team had discovered a huge cabin outside of Jackson, but infiltrating the city and finding Joel will be next to impossible.

Meanwhile, back in Jackson, things are tensed between Jesse, Ellie, and Joel. After what went down at the party, Ellie wants to go out on patrol with Joel, and Jesse reluctantly agrees, but only if Joel lets Dina sleep. Ellie and Jesse set off into the storm, unaware of the danger that awaits them.

As they hide out in an old 7-11, we learn about Gail's husband Eugene, who Joel killed. Jesse paints a grim picture of a mass grave hidden beneath the snow, with seven bodies concealing dozens more. Little does Abby know that she's about to stumble upon this very same horrifying sight.

In an absolute twist of fate, Abby runs into Joel just as she's trapped in an infected anthill. Despite the odds, Joel saves Abby and the trio makes a run for it as a massive horde of infected chases them. After a desperate chase, Joel, Abby, and Dina arrive at the cabin where Abby's friends are holed up. But the unimaginable is about to happen.

As the group begins to suspect who Joel really is, they turn on him. Dina is put to sleep and Abby launches into a painful revenge beating. Joel, realising his fate, asks Abby to end it quickly. But Abby has other plans. In a gruesome scene reminiscent of the game, Abby beats Joel with a golf club, and even though Joel is mostly dead, she takes the golf club and stabs him in the neck.

Ellie follows the tracks in the snow and finds her way to the cabin. She witnesses the gruesome scene and vows to kill everyone there. But they spare her life, leaving her to mourn the death of her father figure.

In the aftermath, Jackson is in shambles. The horde has been defeated, but the destruction and casualties are immeasurable. This heart-wrenching, action-packed episode is bound to leave viewers with a lasting impression and set the stage for the rest of the season.

But what does Joel's death mean for Ellie, the people of Jackson, Abby, and others? We'll have to tune in to find out!
