As the chill sets in, Germans have their go-to drinks to keep the winter blues at bay. Cozying up with a blanket, a warming beverage, and a movie on TV makes for an enjoyable winter evening. Here are the German's favorite winter drinks, based on a survey conducted by Appinio in conjunction with Air Up.

  1. Hot Chocolate (Heißer Schokolade): The number one preferred winter drink in Germany, particularly in Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate.
  2. Tea (Tee): Coming in second, tea is the most popular drink in Baden-Württemberg, Saxony-Anhalt, and Schleswig-Holstein.
  3. Coffee (Kaffee): Grabbing the third spot, coffee has its loyal followers across Germany.

Besides these, there are other popular winter drinks, such as:

  1. Glühwein (Mulled Wine)
  2. Hot Apple Punch
  3. Chai Latte
  4. Eggnog (Eierpunsch)
  5. Fire Punch
  6. Pumpkin Spice Latte
  7. Other Coffee Drinks

Interestingly, Berlin residents love experimenting with their holiday drinks, enjoying the likes of chai lattes, pumpkin spice lattes, and peppermint lattes, despite their high calorie and sugar content. About 48% of survey respondents admitted that limiting sugar consumption during the holiday season was almost impossible.

Maintaining a balanced diet and opting for drinks with less sugar, like unsweetened teas, is recommended. There are also many pleasant sugar-free alternatives available. Reminder: excessive sugar consumption can be harmful to health.
