The Lion King's 'Circle of Life' Reimagined for 2019 Remake
The Lion King's iconic opening song, 'The Circle of Life', has been reimagined for the 2019 remake. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, who voice Timon and Pumbaa, recently discussed the translation of the Zulu lyrics, adding a touch of humour to the process.
The original Zulu lyrics, 'Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba Sithi uhm ingonyama', have been beautifully reworked by Elton John and Lebo M. for the remake. The Zulu chant, which translates to 'Here comes a lion, father, Oh yes it's a lion', sets the stage for the film's epic opening. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen joked about this translation in a recent interview, lightening the mood around the seriousness of the theme.
Composer Hans Zimmer, who worked on the original score, praised the use of African vocals in the opening. The Zulu lyrics, he noted, add a unique and powerful dimension to the song, reflecting the film's African setting and themes of life, birth, and connection among all living things.
The 2019 remake of 'The Lion King' has stayed true to the spirit of the original, with 'The Circle of Life' retaining its powerful impact. The reworked Zulu lyrics, along with Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen's humorous take on the translation, have added fresh energy to the classic song, setting the stage for another unforgettable cinematic experience.
