Düsseldorf's Carnival Chief Speaks: A Call for Normality Post-Pandemic

In a candid address at the Annual General Meeting, CC President Michael Laumen expressed concerns about the declining sense of community within Düsseldorf's carnival, following two challenging years. "It's high time we got back to normal," Laumen emphasized, addressing the seeming ambiguity in the state government's stance on carnival events during the 2022 winter.

The CC chief firmly believed that instead of imposing a definitive ban, the state government left the decision to the associations, passing on the full risk to them.

Stepping up to present the 2022/23 event program, Vice President Stefan Kleinehr underscored the intention for a normal season: "Unless there are specific government guidelines, we're aiming for a business-as-usual session," Kleinehr clarified.

During pandemic winter seasons, numerous event committees across Germany, including carnival committees, grappled with the challenges of accommodating COVID-19 risks while complying with government restrictions and health guidelines. Most committees either postponed, canceled, or significantly scaled down their traditional carnival celebrations to curb viral spread. German carnival committees generally followed municipal and federal regulations, which varied depending on infection rates and legislation, usually barring large-scale indoor events without vaccination, testing, or mask requirements.

Considering this context, it's plausible to conjecture that the Düsseldorf carnival committee, owing to the pandemic's ongoing impact, took a responsible approach by either canceling or modifying events during the 2022 winter to align with public health recommendations and minimize infection risks. For more accurate and detailed information specific to the Düsseldorf carnival committee's stance, one may need to consult official Düsseldorf carnival committee communications or local government releases from that period.
