"The initiative" or "The project"
In the heart of Parma, a city renowned for its music lovers, the Teatro Regio is preparing for a spectacular event. The production of Verdi's Macbeth, directed by Marlene Hahn, is set to open its doors, attracting attention not just from Parma's music community, but from a global audience as well.
The performance, simply titled 'Macbeth', is a revival of Verdi's first version of the opera, originally performed in 1847. Vito Priante and Andrea Borghini will alternate in the roles of Macbeth and Banquo, while Mariangela Sicilia takes on the role of Desdemona. The production also features the new star baritone, Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, as Jago.
The set and costume designs for this production are a feast for the eyes. Margherita Palli has crafted the set, while Giovanna Buzzi has taken care of the costumes. The production also includes the innovative and fresh score, adapted to fit the intimate setting of a smaller theater, making it a more experimental take on the classic opera.
Federico Tiezzi's production is another highlight of the performance. Tenor Fabio Sartori, with his Italian background, is also a part of the cast. The performance is led by director Manuel Renga and the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, with Lanzillotta as conductor.
A special debut is also planned at the Regio with the critical edition of the score, as conductor Roberto Abbado steps into the spotlight for the first time at the theatre.
Marily Santoro and Maria Cristina Bellantuomo will alternate as 'The Lady' in the performance, completing the ensemble of talented performers bringing Verdi's penultimate opera to life. The performance promises to be a captivating event, not to be missed by opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
