The 2001 film adaptation of 'Moulin Rouge,' directed by Baz Luhrmann, grossed $184 million worldwide and was nominated for eight Oscars. Engels is aware of the high expectations that come with the role, but each new rehearsal day brings fresh input and excitement.
Before taking on the lead role in 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical,' Engels had no prior experience in musical theatre or acting on stage. However, she rose to fame as the runner-up in the eighth season of the casting show 'Deutschland sucht den Superstar' (DSDS) in 2011 and has since built a diverse career in music, television appearances, and reality shows.
Engels will first take the stage in Cologne on November 13, where she will perform in a total of 15 shows. She will share the stage with a talented cast of actors and musicians, bringing the iconic musical to life for German audiences.
