Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step forward in their relationship, as they signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) on Wednesday. This development, according to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will foster peace, stability, and prosperity for both nations and the wider region.

The PTI, led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, has reaffirmed its commitment to Pakistan's strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia. This partnership, the PTI believes, is a critical step towards greater Muslim unity and collective security. The PTI values the Kingdom's consistent support for the people of Pakistan and views the enhanced partnership as a means to advance the prospects of peace.

The SMDA significantly strengthens a decades-old security partnership between the two countries. This agreement is seen as a response to the growing unease among Gulf Arab states about the reliability of the United States as a security guarantor.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), expressed his support for the SMDA. He views this defence agreement as the first step towards forming an Islamic bloc and believes that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have the ability to lead the Muslim Ummah.

Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also expressed his support for the Sumud Flotilla, which is heading towards Gaza to break the siege through peaceful means and provide medicines and food.

The PTI has requested the authorities to share details of the SMDA with the nation. As the only nuclear-armed, Muslim-majority nation, Pakistan fields the Islamic world's largest army. The PTI's founding chairman, Imran Khan, has always envisioned Pakistan as a country that unites the Muslim world, builds cooperation among nations, and advances the prospects of peace.

The defence allocation has been raised to Rs2.557 trillion, reflecting the government's commitment to safeguarding the nation's security. The PTI believes that the protection of Harmain-ul-Sharifain, a significant religious site in Saudi Arabia, is a core component of their belief.

The signing of the SMDA comes a week after Israel's strikes on Qatar upended the diplomatic calculus in the region. This agreement underscores Pakistan's commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that Pakistan had declared Israel an illegitimate occupying force since its creation in 1947. Despite this, the PTI's stance on the SMDA demonstrates a pragmatic approach to regional politics and a focus on enhancing Pakistan's security and influence.

In conclusion, the SMDA is a significant development in Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations. It represents a shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and the advancement of Muslim unity and collective security. As the world watches, we can expect to see the implications of this agreement unfold in the coming months.
