In the ongoing espionage trial in Dresden, a Chinese national named Yaqi X. is accused of aiding an alleged spy, Maximilian Krah, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and former MEP [1][2][3].

Yaqi X., who is a member of the Communist Party of China and not politically interested, reportedly met Krah after coming to Germany to study in 2015. Their relationship, which started as a brief romantic period, is said to have continued beyond that time with a longer break in 2021 and 2022 [1].

The incident that led to the current trial began when Yaqi X. became suspicious about a question asked by Krah regarding the passenger list of a charter flight transporting military vehicles of Rheinmetall to Portsmouth. Krah, under the pretext of improving Leipzig Airport's relations with Chinese airports, had asked for information, but Yaqi X. found the question unusual given her non-political interests [1].

Despite her suspicions and fearing personal consequences, Yaqi X. is alleged to have passed on the corresponding data. The data with a military connection is said to have been provided to Krah through the Chinese app WeChat [1].

Yaqi X.'s connection to China is direct. She is Chinese by nationality and is alleged to be involved in espionage operations on behalf of Chinese intelligence. She reportedly worked for a company providing logistics services to Leipzig airport, which allegedly facilitated her spying activities [1].

Jian Guo, Yaqi X.'s alleged handler, is accused of gathering intelligence both from his political position and from spying on Chinese dissidents in Germany. He is also said to have posed as an opponent of the Chinese government on social media to penetrate opposition circles [2].

As the trial continues, the public awaits the outcome of the investigation into these allegations, which could have significant implications for German-Chinese relations and the security of the German arms industry.

The Commission has also been consulted on the draft directive regarding the ongoing espionage trial, as it involves policy-and-legislation and politics, with the general news around the case potentially affecting crime-and-justice, especially considering the accusations against Yaqi X., a Chinese national, who allegedly passed on sensitive military data.

This trial, which involves a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and former MEP, Maximilian Krah, and a Chinese national named Yaqi X., who is alleged to have been involved in espionage operations, is not just a local news story but a matter of international policy and legislation, attracting attention in the realms of policy-and-legislation, politics, general-news, and crime-and-justice.
