Union Foundation Experiences Arson Incident, Repeated Break-ins
The Union Foundation, a hub for democratic dialogue, has been the subject of two recent incidents that have raised concerns. The gates to the Foundation's grounds will remain closed during opening hours until further notice, following an arson incident that occurred on July 31.
At approximately 11 a.m. on that day, two blue paper trash cans were moved into the courtyard of the Union Foundation. An unknown individual overturned the cans, emptied their contents, and set them on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, and thankfully, no one was injured.
The police and fire department were immediately contacted, and nearby construction workers on Wiesenstraße, who were working on roadworks, witnessed the arson. The perpetrator threatened one of the construction workers before leaving the scene, but the individual's identity remains unknown.
CEO JR Hans-Georg Warken strongly condemned the arson incident and expressed gratitude towards the fire department, police, and the construction workers for their service. Warken also emphasized the priority of employee safety and the Foundation's zero-tolerance policy towards acts of intimidation and property damage. Anyone who resorts to intimidation, threats, or property damage is considered a criminal by the Union Foundation.
In addition to the arson incident, the Union Foundation has experienced repeated break-ins in recent months. During these break-ins, the Israeli flag on the flagpole in the parking lot was torn down and stolen. Visitors are asked to announce themselves in advance and inform staff by ringing or calling if they wish to enter.
The Union Foundation promotes open discussions on various topics and has not had any specific or recent reports of threats or security concerns, apart from the recent incidents. The CEO thanked the entire staff for their cooperation and expressed gratitude towards them.
The police have informed the State Protection Department about the arson incident, but whether it is connected to the previous break-ins is currently unclear. The Foundation is cooperating with the authorities to investigate these incidents further.
The Union Foundation remains open for democratic dialogue and welcomes discussions on various topics. The gates will remain closed during opening hours until the investigations are concluded and the Foundation can ensure the safety of its visitors and staff.
The Union Foundation, amidst a series of unexplainable incidents, has seen the realm of politics intertwined with general-news and crime-and-justice, as they grapple with an arson incident on July 31 and recurring break-ins in recent months. These acts of violence and property damage are vehemently condemned by the Foundation, who hold firm to their zero-tolerance policy towards such criminal activities.
