In a shocking turn of events, the Union Foundation in Saarbrücken was the target of an arson attack on July 31, at approximately 11 a.m. According to the Foundation's CEO, JR Hans-Georg Warken, an unknown individual dragged two blue paper trash cans into the courtyard and overturned them. The perpetrator then emptied their contents, setting them on fire.

Fortunately, the fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was harmed. Warken, in a statement, strongly condemned the cowardly act and expressed gratitude to the fire department and police for their swift response. He also thanked the construction workers for their prompt reaction and courage.

The CEO further emphasized the Foundation's priority of employee safety and reiterated the organisation's commitment to promoting democratic dialogue and welcoming respectful exchange of ideas. He also condemned the arson incident in the strongest terms.

This is not the first time the Union Foundation has been targeted. In recent months, the Israeli flag on the flagpole in the parking lot has been stolen during break-ins. The police have informed the state security department about the arson event due to the repeated incidents at the Foundation.

Interested visitors are asked to announce themselves in advance and inform employees by ringing or calling if they wish to enter. The gates will remain closed during opening hours until further notice.

The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, as no information regarding an individual responsible for setting fire to trash cans at the Union Foundation in Saarbrücken has been reported in the search results. It is currently unclear whether the arson is connected to the previous break-ins at the Foundation.

The perpetrator was reported to have threatened one of the construction workers with further actions before leaving the scene. Nearby construction workers on Wiesenstraße witnessed the arson event.

Warken expressed that anyone who intimidates through property damage will be treated as a criminal. He urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the police. The Union Foundation continues to stand firm in its commitment to fostering open dialogue and maintaining the safety of its employees and visitors.
