In the heart of Bavaria, Munich welcomed the 190th Oktoberfest with a bang, despite the scorching temperatures that soared over 31 degrees. The 16-day celebration, which runs until October 5, is expected to draw over six million visitors from Germany and around the world.

The festivities commenced with Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter tapping the first keg of Oktoberfest, marking the official start of the event. Amidst the joyous atmosphere, there were also moments of concern, as the Wiesn medical service of the Aicher Ambulance reported treating over 280 cases, primarily due to the heat.

One of the most notable incidents involved an 18-year-old man from Arizona who was brought to the medical station due to excessive alcohol consumption. The measurement showed that he had a blood alcohol content of 2.9 per thousand. Meanwhile, Jürgen Drews, a Schlager star, skipped the traditional beer at the opening, choosing to be an "anti-alcoholic".

The tragic death of an individual in the area of the showman's caravans before the opening cast a sombre tone over the festivities. However, the show must go on, and the fun-filled spirit of Oktoberfest prevailed.

Stuttgart's Nagel auction house hosted the first car auction, adding a touch of elegance to the festivities. Beer, a traditional coolant during Oktoberfest, was in high demand to combat the heat.

As for the music scene, Beni Hafner, alias Oimara, hopes his song "Wackelkontakt" will become the Wiesn hit of 2025. The security concept for the Wiesn has been tightened this year, with a knife ban extended to the surrounding area to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder received the first liter of beer in 2025, marking a traditional start to the festivities. The youngest patient treated by the Aicher Ambulance was reportedly only 11 years old and complained of circulatory problems.

As World Alzheimer's Day falls on September 21, it serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of health and safety, especially during large-scale events like Oktoberfest. The successor to Richard Lutz is set to become the new rail boss, but there is no verifiable information as to who will tap at the Oktoberfest 2025 for the second time.

Despite the challenges, the spirit of Oktoberfest remains undeterred, with visitors eagerly anticipating the festivities and the chance to enjoy the Bavarian culture and camaraderie.
