Loong Air, a prominent airline, is preparing to inaugurate a direct flight route between Kuala Lumpur and Xi'an, operating three times weekly. The expected launch date is late June 2025, with the specific date still under discussion as both parties monitor market response.

Tourism Malaysia's deputy chairman, Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, confirmed the impending resumption of the Penang-Xi'an flight route operated by Loong Air, which is anticipated to boost the tourism industry. Although the June timeline for the resumption of the Penang-Xi'an route remains tentative, it reinforces the airline's commitment to strengthening ties between the two locations.

In addition to the Penang-Xi'an route, Loong Air has plans to launch a direct flight between Kuala Lumpur and Xi'an, further bolstering travel connections between both countries.

Yeoh emphasized the agency's goal to expand international flight routes beyond Kuala Lumpur, maximizing benefits for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and fostering sustainable economic and tourism growth for each state. Tourism Malaysia will continue collaborating with airlines to secure more direct international connections, enabling tourists to access various Malaysian destinations directly, thereby encouraging optimal tourism development nationwide.
