In the dynamic world of tech and dating apps, Whitney Wolfe Herd, portrayed by Lily James, made a significant impact. Her name became synonymous with innovation and resilience in a male-dominated industry.

Wolfe Herd's journey began at Tinder, where she played a crucial role in the successful development and market launch of the popular dating app. However, a dispute led her to leave the company and embark on a new venture.

The film "Swiped", directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, tells this very story. The movie, available on Disney+ since September 19, focuses on the creation of Tinder and Bumble, with Wolfe Herd as the central character. However, it's important to note that the film was made without Wolfe Herd's participation due to a confidentiality agreement following an out-of-court settlement with Tinder.

Wolfe Herd's departure from Tinder was not without its challenges. She faced open sexism, including bullying and abuse of power, in the tech industry. Despite these obstacles, she persevered and went on to found Bumble, a dating app where only women can make the first move.

The film "Swiped" boasts a strong female team in various departments and as producers, a decision James believes was crucial for the story's authenticity.

James, who played Wolfe Herd, claims to have never tried online dating but tested her friend's dating app in preparation for the role. The film, while entertaining and amusing, portrays Wolfe Herd's success story after leaving Tinder as a feel-good movie filled with Hollywood clichés.

Wolfe Herd's journey didn't go unnoticed. She was supported by Russian investor Andrey Andreev in founding Bumble. Today, approximately 7.5 million people in Germany use dating apps like Tinder or Bumble.

Despite the film's portrayal, Wolfe Herd's story is a testament to her resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Her name continues to inspire women in the tech industry and beyond.
