Park University is gearing up for an exciting month with a variety of events and achievements. Here's a roundup of the latest news:

**Student in the Spotlight**

Niko Barber, a sophomore liberal arts student, recently grabbed the attention of the Johnson County (Kan.) Post on January 24. Barber's accomplishments and aspirations were highlighted in the article, making him a beacon of inspiration for fellow students.

**Celebrating Women in Sport**

The Parkville Campus women's beach volleyball and men's volleyball programs are ranked in their respective NAIA Coaches Top 10 poll to begin the 2025 season. On February 20, the 3rd Annual Arrr & Arrr Event for Park University's athletics department will be held, aiming to celebrate these achievements and support the power of women in sport.

**Music and Scholarship**

The Park University International Center for Music Orchestra will perform its annual Valentine's Concert on February 7. The next concert in the 2024-25 season will be a performance by violinist David Radzynski and pianist Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich on March 14. Individual tickets for the 6th Annual Stanislav & Friends Concert, set for March 1, range from $43 to $108 per seat.

**Academic Achievements**

Amy Mecklenburg-Faenger, Ph.D., has been appointed as editor of the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council for 2025-28. Dr. Mecklenburg-Faenger, who previously edited Park University's academic journal, InSight: A Journal of Scholarly Teaching, from 2018-23, will bring her wealth of experience to this new role.

**Networking Opportunities**

In conjunction with the State Historical Society of Missouri, Park University is hosting the 67th annual Missouri Conference on History, March 12-14. This event promises to offer networking and professional development opportunities for those interested in history and academia.

**Community Engagement**

The Parkville Campus Office of Student Life is hosting a pair of Black History Month events in February. Attendees will help celebrate National Women and Girls in Sport month.

**Recognising Achievements**

Three individuals associated with Park athletics - Lindsey Derry, Brittanie Propes, and Nathalia Harth - will be highlighted. Details about their achievements and contributions to Park University's sports programs will be revealed soon.

**In the Limelight**

Melissa Ferrer Civil, ME '20, who was appointed as the first poet laureate in Kansas City, Mo., in February 2024, was featured in Kansas City magazine on January 24. Bobbi Shaw, executive assistant to the president, also made headlines when she appeared on the nationally syndicated television talk show "Live with Kelly and Mark" on January 14.

**Academic Discourse**

Courtney Rilinger, Ph.D., assistant professor of communications, co-authored an article titled "The Influence of Attributions, Emotions and Sexual Health Knowledge on Support Provision to Friends with Sexual Health Uncertainties" that was published on January 5 in the Health Communication journal.
