The city of Glasgow assumes a New York appearance as filming for Spider-Man commences

The city of Glasgow, Scotland is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation as it serves as the filming location for the upcoming Marvel Spider-Man movie, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film, set to hit theatres next year, is the fourth instalment in the MCU's Spider-Man franchise, starring Tom Holland as the titular character[1].

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers[1], the movie is being filmed against a backdrop of American flags, yellow cabs, and US vehicles, including New York Police Department cars, buses, and food vans[2][4]. Streets such as Blythswood Street, Pitt Street, Wellington Street, and Bothwell Street have become temporary New York City streets, with fake items commonly seen in New York lining the streets of Glasgow[5].

The plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shrouded in mystery, but it is expected to feature multiple Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, the Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal), and the Hulk[3]. Initial reports suggest that these characters will initially clash, only to eventually form an alliance against a common villain, rumoured to be Mr. Negative[3]. This indicates a plot that combines superhero conflicts with eventual alliances against a larger threat.

In terms of tone, the film seems set to include a significant amount of action involving multiple high-profile characters and villains clashing, while also offering moments of reconciliation and heroism[3]. The involvement of Destin Daniel Cretton as director may bring a fresh directorial tone compared to previous films, possibly more grounded and character-focused given his prior work.

Joining Tom Holland and Zendaya, who plays Michelle Jones "MJ" Watson, are Charlie Cox as Daredevil[1], adding an exciting twist to the already anticipated movie. Filming is set to conclude on August 15[2].

Stay tuned for more updates on Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the filming progresses!
