The Avengers dominate superhero box office with $7.777 billion earnings

A new ranking of superhero films by box office earnings has been released. The list focuses only on live-action movies and uses unadjusted figures from Box Office Mojo. Two major team-up films were noted as honourable mentions but excluded from the main ranking. The Avengers lead the rankings with total earnings of $7.777 billion (around €6.767 billion). Their highest-grossing films, Infinity War and Endgame, together brought in nearly $5 billion. Meanwhile, the X-Men franchise follows with $3.108 billion (about €2.705 billion) in worldwide earnings.

The top standalone superhero film outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Joker, which earned roughly $1.079 billion. Exchange rates used for euro conversions were based on values from March 31, 2026.

One hero has even surpassed The Avengers in total earnings, though their identity was revealed separately. The analysis did not account for inflation, focusing purely on raw box office numbers. The ranking highlights the financial dominance of Marvel's team films, particularly The Avengers. Joker stands out as the most successful non-MCU superhero movie. All figures were sourced directly from Box Office Mojo and converted to euros using recent exchange rates.
