The kid who outpaces Draisaitl in NHL milestones

With 54 points (17 goals, 37 assists) under his belt, Tim Stützle is swiftly outmatching his German compatriot Leon Draisaitl. Yet, the 21-year-old Ottawa Senators forward isn't entirely satisfied, his sights are set on becoming the best. Despite Draisaitl's accolades, Stützle surpasses him in a unique record.

Playing off-ice, Stützle observes every other German NHL star. "We're all a little competitive," says the national ice hockey player. At his age, Stützle ranks number one in one aspect: no other German player has reached 200 scoring points as quickly as he has., beating Draisaitl by 31 games. Stützle downplays its significance, admits it's a "cool" achievement.

Draisaitl, a six-year Oiler veteran, boasts a remarkable resume: four seasons of 100+ points, three 50+ goals seasons, and once the league's leading scorer. Yet, in his fourth NHL season, Stützle surpasses him. Stützle also has Connor McDavid, arguably the world's best ice hockey player, as a teammate. Despite his youth, the Viersen native is the team's star, leading attacker and "leader" on the ice.

Salary set to skyrocket

Stützle's contract, worth $66.8 million over eight years, runs out this season. The Edmonton Oilers will pay Draisaitl $68 million over the same period. By Stützle's second contract renewal, his salary will surpass Draisaitl's current earnings. Reaching the 100-point elite circle, Stützle is on track this season, with significant team success still needed.

The on-ice pressure in Canada is immense. "When you play in Florida, it's more relaxed," says Stützle, "But in Ottawa, wins bring praise, losses spell disaster." Stützle, however, has navigated these pressures exceptionally well.
