The art festival, "Shalapin. Origin of the Artist," is set to take place in the Reserve Quarters towards the end of August.
In the heart of Nizhny Novgorod, from August 21-24, 2025, the city will come alive with the 5th anniversary of the "Shalyapin. The Birth of an Artist" music and educational festival. This event, organised by ANO "Zapovednye Kvartaly" and supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, is a tribute to the legendary Russian opera singer, Feodor Chaliapin.
The festival takes place in the Tretye Svyatitelya Quarter, near the Gusyevs estate and in the Garden of Dreamers. The programme is dedicated to the rise of the great bass, from his first steps in a provincial choir to world fame.
On August 21, art historian Sabina Melnik will give a lecture about Chaliapin's creative path at 17:00. The same day, at 20:00, a performance in the windows of the historical estate "Okna v zhizn' arista" will captivate audiences.
On August 22, theatre director Lev Kharlamov will conduct acting workshops for children from 10:00-18:30. In the evening, at 18:00, the concert "A Star is Born!" featuring bass Dmitry Grigoryev (Mariinsky Theater) and pianist Alexei Timushov will take place.
On August 23, seminars for teachers titled "Practices for Unlocking a Teen's Creative Potential" by artist Yakob Khorev and "Reading with Stops in the Genre of Theater Pedagogy" with actor and director Valery Kukushkin will take place from 12:00-17:00. In the evening, at 18:00, a concert featuring young vocalists and teachers from the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory will enchant spectators.
On August 24, museum educator Yulia Bimenina will conduct creative workshops during the festival. The event curator Ksenia Anufrieva will give a lecture about Shalyapin's creative path at 17:00. The festivities will culminate with a performance by the "Nizhny Novgorod" choir with Russian classical a cappella at 18:00.
The "Preserve Quarters" project, implemented since 2021, has transformed into a new attraction for tourists in Nizhny Novgorod. This unique area consists of 28 wooden cultural heritage sites and offers a peaceful spot in the heart of the metropolis where every detail invites relaxation.
