"The anime film 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' surpasses another sales record in Japan's box office"
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle, the latest instalment in the popular anime franchise, has maintained its position as Japan's highest-grossing film with a total earnings of ¥40.43bn. This remarkable achievement surpasses the earnings of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train (2020), which previously held the title.
The film, directed by Haruo Sotozaki, has also set new records for best opening weekend, best single day, and best opening day, breaking the previous records set by Mugen Train. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle earned $37.3m (¥5.52bn) during its opening weekend (July 18-20), marking Japan's highest-grossing opening weekend on record.
As of August 11, the film has earned a total of $148.6m (¥22bn) on 15.7 million admissions since its release on July 18. Over its fourth weekend in cinemas (August 8-10), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle earned $12.8m (¥1.9bn) on 1.3 million admissions.
In second and third place for the same weekend were new entry Jurassic World Rebirth and domestic thriller Tokyo MER: The Movie: Nankai Mission.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle is now Japan's 6th-highest-grossing film of all time, ranking above classics such as Titanic (1997), Frozen (2014), and Your Name (2016). Spirited Away (2001) still holds the second spot on Japan's all-time box office list with ¥31.68bn.
The film's success has not gone unnoticed, with its upcoming screenings and markets at various film festivals and markets in 2025. Given Demon Slayer's popularity and Japanese origin, the March anime festivals in Tokyo and October animation festivals in Hong Kong, New York, and Europe are the most likely platforms for screenings and markets in 2025. Other regional Asian film festivals in October may also feature it depending on programming.
In addition to its continued success in Japan, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle is set to release in North America and the UK on September 12. The film will also feature new cast members, including Rebecca Wang as Keizo's daughter Koyuki and Channing Tatum as martial arts master Keizo.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle is the latest feature film in the Demon Slayer anime franchise, following the ongoing adventures of Tanjiro Kamado, a young man dedicated to hunting down monsters as part of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Entertainment and movies-and-tv industries have witnessed an unprecedented achievement with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle, as it maintains its position as Japan's highest-grossing film and sets new records in box office earnings and attendance.
