In the 15th century, two soldiers, William Garin (Matt Damon) and Pero Tovar (Pedro Pascal), escape a Kitan people assault in the Gobi Desert. By serendipity, William obtains a mysterious creature's claw, and later, they encounter a massive horde of these elusive beings.

In the heart of the 15th century, two soldiers, William Garin, played by Matt Damon, and Pero Tovar, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, fled from an attack by the Kitans in the Gobi Desert. Their journey led them to the Great Wall of China, where they joined forces with a group of soldiers tasked with fighting against terrifying creatures known as Tao Tie.

The movie, classified as an Adventure film, stars Eddie Peng as General Wu, Andy Lau as Strategist Wang, and Tian Jing as Lin Mae. Willem Dafoe plays the character Ballard, adding to the ensemble cast that also includes Damon, Pascal, Lau, and Peng.

The Tao Tie, depicted as green-skinned, quadrupedal alien-like beings with shark-like teeth and eyes located on their shoulders, are the primary antagonists of the film. They originate from a meteor that fell long ago and live in eusocial hives, launching attacks every 60 years to harvest food for their queen.

The Great Wall was built long, high, and sturdy to withstand the Tao Tie attacks. However, during their escape, William acquired the claw of an unknown creature. The soldiers reached a fortress on the Great Wall and were captured by General Shao's elite army.

The movie, titled "The Great Wall," has a runtime of 110 minutes and was produced in the USA, China, Hong Kong, Australia, and Canada. The characters Lin Mae, Strategist Wang, and General Wu are new additions to the movie's cast, joining the previously mentioned characters.

The Tao Tie monsters in the film are a creative adaptation of a mythological motif into an epic fantasy narrative.
