The upcoming Darts World Championship 2024, set to take place at Alexandra Palace in London from December 15 to January 3, 2024, is gathering excitement, and not just for the high-stakes competition. Paddy Power, the main sponsor of the event, has announced a new initiative called The Big 180 Campaign.

Two-time dart world champion Gary Anderson has expressed his support for the campaign, which aims to increase awareness about prostate cancer. Contrary to initial reports, The Big 180 Campaign does not involve painting the dartboard green, but rather celebrates and promotes the scoring of 180s—the maximum score with three darts—an iconic and exciting part of the sport.

During the tournament, Paddy Power will donate £1,000 (approximately €1,167) for every 180 score. This innovative approach combines sports sponsorship with fan interaction, entertainment, and brand visibility during major events like the World Darts Championship.

As for the championship favourites, Luke Humphries is the bookmakers' favourite, with odds between 4.3 and 4.5. Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen follow closely, with odds between 5.0 and 5.5, and 4.3 to 4.5 respectively. Last year's winner, Michael Smith, has average odds of 11.0.

Meanwhile, the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim recently saw Ricardo Pietreczko emerge victorious. Five German players, including Pietreczko, will participate in the Darts World Championship 2024. However, despite Pietreczko's recent win, he is not considered a contender for the title.

The Big 180 Campaign is not the first initiative to raise awareness for men's health issues; Movember and Pink October are similar campaigns. During Movember, men grow mustaches to raise awareness for men's health issues, while during Pink October, sports teams wear pink jerseys or specially designed pink equipment to raise awareness for breast cancer.

It's important to note that The Big 180 Campaign is not related to any changes in the dartboard's colour. In a unique twist, Paddy Power will paint the triple 20 on the dartboard green, which is the dominant colour of the Irish gambling company.

The outcome of the Darts World Championship 2024, including the number of 180s thrown and the winner, is yet to be determined. As the tournament approaches, fans and players alike are eager to see how The Big 180 Campaign will unfold and contribute to raising awareness for prostate cancer.

Online casinos in Germany offer a variety of sports-themed games, including darts, providing an opportunity for fans to engage with the sport while supporting the Big 180 Campaign. The upcoming Darts World Championship 2024, with its exciting competition, could potentially bring inhigh scores, contributing to the donation for prostate cancer awareness.
