Zac Efron Remembers Matthew Perry at Walk of Fame Speech
During his emotional speech at the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Zac Efron (36) took a moment to honor a late colleague. The "High School Musical" star paid tribute to Matthew Perry, who he worked with on "17 Again" in 2009. Perry tragically passed away in his hot tub at home on October 28 at the age of 54.
Efron began his speech by acknowledging Perry's absence, expressing gratitude for the kindness and generosity his co-star showed him during their collaboration. Efron reflected on how much fun they had working together and how it pushed him and motivated him in many ways.
"I think about you a lot today," Efron said, choking back tears. He went on to explain how Perry's role in "17 Again" catapulted him into the next chapter of his career and thanked Perry for that opportunity.
Perry's Wish for Efron to Play Him in Biopic
Just before his death, Perry expressed his wish for Efron to play him in a biopic. His good friend, Athenna Crosby, revealed this in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight."
Efron was "honored" by the idea, telling "ExtraTV" that it would be a great opportunity.
Tributes from Miles Teller and Jeremy Allen White
At the unveiling ceremony, other colleagues also paid tribute to Zac Efron. Miles Teller (36) honored his longtime friend, calling him the "first real superstar" to emerge from their generation. Teller and Efron worked together in the 2014 romantic comedy "Forever Single?"
Jeremy Allen White (32) also paid tribute to Efron, having previously starred with him in the wrestling film "The Iron Claw" set to release in cinemas on December 21.
