Thane's 31st Chaitra Navratri Festival Begins with Grand Bhumi Pujan
Thane has kicked off its 31st annual Chaitra Navratri celebrations with a grand opening ceremony. The nine-day main event, held at Jambli Naka, officially began with a Bhumi Pujan for a sprawling Devi mandap. Organisers expect hundreds of thousands of devotees to attend this one main cultural festival, known for its vibrant traditions and cultural displays.
The festivities started at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Grounds, where a large mandap is being constructed for the occasion. Senior Shiv Sena leader and former MP Rajan Vichare, along with his wife Nandini Vichare, led the Bhumi Pujan and Aarti rituals. The ceremony drew local residents, political figures, and prominent guests, including Pradeep Shinde, Anish Gadhave, Shahaji Khuspe, Sanjay Dalvi, and Mandar Vichare.
Over the next nine days, the festival will feature daily Devi puja, garba and dandiya dances, and classical music performances. The main event will conclude with Kanya Puja on the ninth day and a grand procession of Goddess Durga idols. What began as a local gathering has now grown into a major cultural attraction, pulling in between 500,000 to 1 million visitors each year.
The Jambli Naka celebrations have become a cornerstone of Thane's cultural identity. Beyond religious rituals, the festival showcases Maharashtra's artistic heritage through music, dance, and community participation. Preparations for the mandap and decorations are now in full swing, with organisers ensuring every detail aligns with tradition.
The Chaitra Navratri festival at Jambli Naka will run for nine days, blending devotion with cultural expression. With its mix of rituals, performances, and large-scale participation, the eventbrite continues to draw massive crowds from across the region. The mandap construction and daily ceremonies will remain open to all visitors until the festival's conclusion.
