Thane faces 24-hour water shutdown for urgent pipeline repairs on May 7

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has warned residents of a 24-hour water supply shutdown in key areas. The outage begins at midday on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and will last until the same time the following day. Essential maintenance and upgrades by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) are behind the disruption.

The shutdown affects Diva, Kalwa, Mumbra, Wagle, and Manpada Ward Committees. During this period, water supply will stop completely for all residents in these zones. The work involves urgent repairs and system upgrades on Barvi Gravity Pipelines 1, 2, and 3 at the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant’s High-Level Reservoir (HSR).

TMC has urged citizens to prepare by storing enough water ahead of time. They have also advised careful usage during both the shutdown and the restoration phase. After the supply resumes, water pressure may remain low for the next 24 to 48 hours as the system returns to normal. The maintenance window runs from 12:00 pm on May 7 to 12:00 pm on May 8, 2026. MIDC’s infrastructure upgrades aim to improve long-term reliability but require a full halt in service for the duration.

Residents in the affected wards must plan for a full day without running water. Once restored, the supply may take up to two days to reach normal pressure levels. Authorities have stressed the need for conservation and advance preparation during this period.
